Four Season Farm offers a unique and highly sought-after opportunity to learn from the best in innovative four season farming practices. We maintain a small crew of paid farm employees led by our two Farm Managers. For all crew members, we favor people with at least one year of farming experience, and an interest in farming as a career. The work will be demanding both physically and mentally, but also educational, fun, and socially engaging. All positions require full commitment and legal U.S. employment qualification to ensure the proper functioning of the farm – serious applicants only.
Clara Coleman operates the farm business, and is responsible for hiring decisions and managing employee personnel. Eliot Coleman and Barbara Damrosch are primarily involved with tool development and long-term farm planning. They reside on the farm property and periodically interact and engage with the Farm Managers and crew members. Occasionally a farm lunch is shared all together as an opportunity to connect and exchange ideas.

SEASONAL FARM CREW
May 2023 until Nov 2023
We are seeking 2 individuals to join our farm crew and work directly with our two Farm Managers and other members of the farm team. Reporting directly to our Farm Managers and working with other crew members, this position offers an overview of our four season farming practices for candidates interested in learning diversified small-scale Realorganic farming practices and operations. Below is a list of responsibilities, expectations, and supplemental information about the position.
AMONG THE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Plant House propagation (seed starting, soil blocking, potting on, etc.);

Soil bed preparation, fertilization and irrigation;
-
Successive plantings (direct seeding & transplanting) of crops;

Opportunity to learn the operation of BCS and tractor;
-
Preventive management and control of weeds, insect pests and pest diseases;
-
Implementation and maintenance of greenhouse crops, including moveable greenhouse planning;
-
Harvesting, packing, storage of vegetables and delivery of orders;
-
Sale of products from the farm to the weekly on-site Saturday Farm Stand;
-
Care of laying hens on a weekly rotational basis.
PROFILE OF THE CANDIDATES WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Seeks to advance their agricultural knowledge;
-
Has a good level of practical application and experience in market gardening (1-2 seasons);

Capacity for physical work under variable weather conditions and ability to consistently and safely lift 50 pounds;

Ease of working independently and in teams;
-
Attention to detail and work well done;

Openness, willingness to share a kitchen/bathroom space with other colleagues (housing is private);

Has a valid driver’s license to operate our delivery vehicle, and access to a personal vehicle due to the remote location of our farm.

SUPPLEMENTARY EMPLOYMENT DETAILS:

Full-time position (40 hours);

Schedule from 7/7:30 am to 4/4:30 pm Monday to Friday, including one unpaid hour for lunch, as well as a rotating Saturday for Farm Stand with other members of the team;

Starting salary of $15 per hour;

On-site and private accommodation will be provided at the farm with shared use of a bathroom and Commercial Kitchen;

Access to the extra vegetables & eggs from the farm;

Flexible personal time;

Personal transportation is the responsibility of the employee and access to a personal vehicle is necessary due to the remote location of our farm;
